Kenya Tegu AA is a single-origin coffee produced by the Tegu Washing Station, part of the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society in Nyeri, Kenya. Since 1969, this station has served over 1200 smallholder farmers from five villages. Nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdaire range, the station processes cherries from small half-hectare farms. The cherries undergo a traditional washing process, starting with hand-picking, dry fermentation overnight, and multiple washes before being soaked and dried on raised beds. The rich soils and careful processing at Tegu produce a coffee with a distinct and vibrant flavour profile.

J.B. Maina’s song “Tiga Kumute” (Don’t Push Her Away) is sung in the Kikuyu language and came out in the 90s. However, since then it has come up in multiple versions in many different genres. It is the song that you're most likely to hear when on a bus to Karatina and Tegu washing station.

Drinking Notes

  • Cranberry: A sharp, tangy splash of cranberry kicks off the tasting experience with bold, fruity notes.
  • Orange Blossom: Delicate floral aromas of orange blossom complement the tartness of the cranberry, adding a fragrant layer to the cup.
  • Passionfruit: Tropical passionfruit emerges, offering a refreshing tartness and deep complexity.
  • Hanrabong Tea: The cup finishes with hanrabong tea, a unique citrus tea with mellow, honeyed undertones that round out the flavour profile.
