Casper Rasmussen of Coffee Collective in Copenhagen — one of the people who taught our founder how to roast — visits Halo Berity most years. Something that has always amused him are the monkeys. They occupy the tall trees around the washing station, watching proceedings with professional detachment. Occasionally they descend to investigate the drying beds. The beds are covered with nets for exactly this reason. The puzzle continues to confound them.

The Story
The Halo Berity area sits in the highest elevations of Yirgacheffe, a region celebrated for the most aromatic washed coffees in Ethiopia. Abeyot Ageze’s washing station — a Cup of Excellence and Golden Bean Australia winner — works with smallholder farmers across the surrounding hills. Cherries are sorted, pulped, fermented, and dried on raised beds in the highland air: conventional washed process executed with uncommon care.
The calamansi brightness and apricot softness come from altitude, heirloom variety, and the precision of that process. Calamansi is a Southeast Asian citrus with the tartness of lime and the sweetness of mandarin; alongside apricot and calendula, it makes this one of the more complete Yirgacheffes we have offered. Halo Berity means ‘gate of blessing’ in Amharic. The lot earns the name.
In the Cup
Calamansi citrus opens bright and clean. Apricot in the mid-palate; calendula and light florals throughout. Juicy and vibrant — the kind of coffee that makes you want another cup before you’ve finished the first.
