Kenya Ndaroini PB is a distinctive peaberry coffee from the Ndaroini Factory, located in Nyeri, Kenya. Established in 1984 by the Karatina producers, Ndaroini—meaning “place of rest” in Swahili—offers local smallholders a nearby facility to process their ripe cherries. Only the reddest and ripest cherries make the cut, hand-selected under the watchful eye of the Cherry Clerk. After selection, the cherries are pulped, fermented for 12 to 16 hours, then washed and graded. The beans are then dried on raised beds for 14 to 21 days to ensure even moisture levels and flavour consistency.

Our label features a cat with a red mohawk and the slogan “Better red than dead,” capturing the cooperative spirit of Ndaroni Factory and is a cheeky nod to the commissar of coffee who only accepts the truly red.

The peaberry (PB) designation refers to a natural mutation where a single, rounded bean forms instead of two halves. Once considered a defect, peaberries are now prized for their sweetness and unique shape, contributing to a smoother and more refined coffee experience.

Drinking Notes

  • Water Lily: The journey begins with the floral aroma of water lily, which gracefully rises from the cup, setting the tone for a bright and aromatic brew.
  • Raspberry: A vibrant burst of raspberry follows, bringing a lively fruitiness that adds depth to the cup.
  • Sugarcane Juice: A clean, natural sweetness from sugarcane juice balances the tartness of the raspberry, leaving a smooth and lasting finish.
